“A top-down space shooter in a mmo sandbox.” – SS2 devolpers.

In Star Sonata 2 you control your ship in real time action. Take territory and build stations in the pursuit of becoming crowned emperor of the universe. From a first look at this game it looks to be similar to EVE online although both started to release versions around the same time and SS2 has some unique features. Every few months the universe resets and your character remains the same to prevent groups from becoming to powerful, which in turn would ruin the game for new players if groups were able to do so. This game is using a 3d engine but still has the aspect of a 2d game that everyone enjoyed in the previous game.

What makes this game more interesting from similar games is its combat system. Its not as simple as right clicking a button constantly grinding your characters level. This game also has a large PVE side which helps with character advancement.

There are currently about 900 members playing daily. This game is free to play while there is a Premium subscription for as low as $7/m.

There was a big hype recently over Zynga directly ripping off Nimblebit’s game of the year on apple called TinyTower. This post that Ian Marsh had posted on Twitter. At first this made me pretty angry that a company could go so low. After the fact that Zynga initially tried to buy Nimblebit as a company but they refused, but hey at least they offered to own the company before owning the game, right? Its sad that a group of three people have more creativity than a near three thousand employee’s that Zynga has. I wrote a long article ranting about  “WTF was Zynga thinking?!?”  The app I was writing it on glitched and terminated but in the end I had time to think and now I am happy, so now I can give you my fully revised thoughts on this issue.

Small time company’s such as single individuals working on a project spend the time to be fully creative. Majority of new content is usually created with flash and posted online. Then the bigger company’s get to steal that game concept or game itself and add a few minor tweaks to make it there own, the same as you would do with a High school essay using Wikipedia. Although not every company completely rips off a game. Some take the concept idea and make a new game evolved from the original idea. Which is awesome. Minecraft evolved from Infiniminer and it turned out to be a great creative game. Credit was given where it needed to be given. What bugs me is the company’s that rip off a game and claim it has nothing to do with the game that they copied it from. Angry birds copied the game concept of Crush The Castle and just tweaked it to their own art and music. Angry Birds is one of the most popular games for IOS and is world renown but not to many people know about Crush The Castle and it is to the point that people will play this game and say “This is a complete rip off of Angry Birds.”

XGenStudio’s replied to Nimblebit with this post saying they are not the only one, and to take it as a comment. “Imitation is the sincerest of flattery” – Charles Caleb ColtenI can see why Nimblebit is dissapointed but there really is nothing you can do. Myself typing this is not going to magically change the market in gaming. There is going to be greed in any market where there is money to be made. I just needed to get rid of this itch. I know what it is like to spend hard hours on something only for it all to be for nothing and it becomes frustrating when its a common occurrence. For now we can just hope that future developing titles become more original.

With Zelda’s quests and fighting style and Minecraft’s worldly feel. Cube World has been in development by one person and he said he wants to finish it by himself. Although this game is in the Alpha stages it is looking highly promising. Using the Voxel engine players can play online or by themselves in a world of cubes. A recent update pulled from Wollay’s blog showing a awesome new feature that allows you to build in the style of a Sims game, adding wall by wall to build your home. More than any other game in development am I excited to play currently and I hope Wollay releases a Alpha stage of the game online. I also wouldnt mind seeing an MMO version with either an open world or a lobby system. The game is still in early development so I leave you with the video until news progresses.

Vessel by Strange Loop Games is a unique looking puzzle game set in a Steampunked world. Created with a custom engine focused on liquid simulation and physics. After an invention named Fluro was created by M. Arkwright the world has changed. Fluro workers have replaced Human labour. In the game you must use the Fluro’s to bring animation to any liquid. Knowing the purpose of the liquid can help you complete levels. Throughout the game you are to discover what M. Arkwright’s next mystery invention “The Accelerator” might be. It seems as if  “The Accelerator” may be invented for something uncivil.

Strange Loop Games might be going in the right direction with this game. As a company they stated on their website that they are looking towards the best hardware for game play and not just graphics, which is perfect for the type of people that enjoy a car’s performance before looking at the paint job. Games like Minecraft by Mojang have tried this approach and it has worked flawlessly.

I hope to see more from Strange Loop Games in the hopes to keep imagination at a high level. The game seems to have a lot of potential for an in depth story and people spending hours trying to figure out a puzzle.

Announced to be released on March 1st on PC with Steam and possibly a later date for console.

After taking care of SOPA and PIPA we are thrown another fast ball. ACTA alone could destroy the internet, which would lead to the destruction of gaming among many things. These bills that are getting passed and those supporting are by a generation who do not understand what the Internet is. The difference between SOPA and ACTA is that SOPA was a bill proposed in the United States while ACTA is generally international and supported by 27 U.N countries. ACTA will prevent you from messaging a friend without it being monitored. The video above may explain it better so I urge you to watch it and share with anyone you can.
